Title: How: Why HOW We Do Anything Means
Everything
Author: Dov Seidman
Stars: ***

It’s not what we do that matters anymore. It’s how we do it. That’s the
message of Dov Seidman’s book, “How.” Today, the real competitive
advantage for companies is in “outbehaving” the competition. This shift
from What or How Much to How has occurred, in large part, due to the
increased level of transparency and interconnectedness in the world today.
We simply can’t hide anymore! We can put out a great product, for instance
(The What), but if people find out we produced it with child labor (The How),
we’re doomed.

How do we get our Hows right? By doing the right thing… by being open
and honest, sharing credit, and keeping promises, to name a few ways.
Not surprisingly, the book has a heavy focus on trust. Dov provides an
acronym – TRIP which stands for Trust, Risk, Innovation, and Progress.
We need a foundation of Trust to enable us to take Risk. When we take
Risks we create Innovation. Innovation drives Progress. “Trust propels its
own TRIP!”

Dov provides a host of references and entertaining anecdotes to back up
his premise, and while it’s not a “How to” book with step-by-step
instructions, he does provide a framework (The Leadership Framework),
which can be used as a guide to help put the Hows into action everyday.
Give it a shot.
