Title: Gung Ho!: Turn On the People in Any Organization Author: Ken Blanchard, Sheldon Bowles Stars: ***
Gung Ho! is a parable about how Andy Longclaw helps his new boss save the plant by turning the employees into “raving fans” of their company. Andy accomplishes this by introducing 3 concepts to his boss, who implements them in the workplace: The Spirit of the Squirrel, The Way of the Beaver, and The Gift of the Goose.
If squirrels don’t do their part to collect nuts, they will die. They have purposeful work with shared goals and values. Workers need the same thing. Beavers don’t have bosses. They are in control of achieving their goals. Employees must be as well. Finally Geese are constantly honking to cheer each other on. Again, the same is true with employees. They need to be rewarded and congratulated for their efforts.
Much like Zapp!, the principles are sound and the parable steps the reader through how they can be introduced and instilled in the workforce to transform an organization. More good stuff.
